Most doctors will agree with the statement that sometimes with fertility treatment, especially where there are no specific problems, that it is simply “not the right time”. This is not comforting to the patient, who is usually desperate to fall pregnant. Nicola Smuts Allsop is a consulting astrologer living in the United Kingdom. Originally from South Africa, she completed her first studies at the Rod Suskin School of Astrology in Cape Town, and completed a Diploma in Medieval Astrology with Astro Logos (Bernadette Brady) in the UK. If you miss your consultation, that is you do not make contact with Nicola via email or telephone at your allotted time, you will not be able to redeem your appointment or get a refund.
Should you change your mind after you have booked online, you will have 24 hours in which to cancel by email. A cancellation fee of £10 pounds will be applicable.
BIRTH TIMES ARE REQUESTED IN THE FORMAT DD/MM/YY.
If you enter incorrect data on your form and Nicola has prepared your chart according to that data, you may ask to reschedule another appointment for an additional £175. It is at Nicola’s discretion, otherwise you not entitled to a refund, and will have to re-book another appointment.
There is no guarantee that Nicola can, or will make you pregnant. You undertake to talk to her about your fertility issues and she undertakes to give you information regarding the potentially fertile times you should try to conceive.
There is no refund if you do not become pregnant – there are too many external factors over which Nicola does not have control in your life.
Nicola reserves the right to decline to consult, with discretion.
You may email Nicola and give her feedback, but there is no obligation on Nicola’s behalf to return your email or give you further information. Should you wish to consult with her again, you will have to go through the procedure of booking an appointment and paying for it using the payment facilities available.
Nicola is not a medical practitioner; she is an astrologer. She has a huge amount of medical knowledge about the reproductive techniques and outcomes, but it is the client’s duty to remember that she does not in any way pretend to be a representative of any medical organisation or council.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR CONSULTATION
How we feel affects how we think, and how we think affects how we behave and these habitual behaviours affect our health. Nicola can discuss the default settings of your chart and where the weak points and strong points are and how to negotiate the outside world with your own sensitive awareness without taking on the negativity of others and the patterning of the past.
Nicola will focus on medical history as a narrative, your emotional responses to situations and your defense mechanisms. Astrology can help to strengthen your immune system by putting proper emotional boundaries in place through understanding the role you play in your family constellation and in your working world.
Astrology can help us accept our own limitations as human beings as well as those of the people we love. Sometimes it is helpful to understand that someone behaves the way they do in a relationship not because they want to, but because they don’t know any other way to express themselves. The objectivity of such a reading does not challenge either party, nor does astrology take sides… Find out more about where your “bliss spots” are with your cosmic mate and take your understanding of one another to a new level. Your partner does not need to be present, but you would need their permission to discuss their chart.
Nicola can also discuss how each person communicates, what their value systems are, and how they perceived their own nurturing as well as what makes them feel safe and nourished as an individual. You do not need to attend the consultation with your partner but you will need their permission to discuss your fertility issues. Nicola will discuss your medical history and you will be asked personal questions about the quality of your eggs and sperm, your hormone function results and your menstrual cycle. More broader issues such as expectations of parenthood, financial concerns, and past parental/abuse/drug abuse/addiction/depression might be raised. This is not an in-depth psychological consultation, Nicola will touch on those issues that appear as suggested by the astrology to be interfering with conception, and you may take these issues elsewhere to explore at some other point, or not.
The primary focus will be to time when you plan to have treatment or even natural conception, if that is the case. You will receive some notes ahead of your consult, sometimes an hour beforehand. Please try to have them handy, but they are not necessary if forgotten. These are meant to be an aide de memoir as they will allow you to focus more readily on what is said without having to concentrate on the dates, which can be overwhelming. If you do have a repeat consultation, you should email the relevant page/s to Nicola ahead of your consult, as she is not always at her desk in the UK.

How do I know I am ovulating?
Register with a clinic and use their scanning facilities to check exactly when you are ovulating, it is a common misunderstanding that every woman ovulates on day 14 of her cycle, some women ovulate earlier or later, so by ensuring exactly when you ovulate and how many eggs there are at ovulation, you can increase your chances of natural conception considerably, before trying other more invasive methods of fertility treatment.
Is IVF like playing God? What happens if I am really religious?
IVF, Gift, and other methods of fertility treatment all use advanced medical technology to increase your chances of conception. All these methods can achieve is a fertilisation of the egg and the sperm, the conception then happens once the embryo (fertilised egg and sperm) is re-introduced into the uterus. The conception will then happen over the next 36 hours, during which time the uterus will either accept or reject the embryo. So, no matter how much technology you use to get the embryo into the uterus, neither the Doctor nor the patient has control over if conception happens, this is still left to the powers that be.

What a delight this book was to read! It will be for any astrologer interested in, or versed in, traditional astrology. Or any astrologer interested in the topic of significators of fertility in a natal chart. The author – as the subtitle reads – has succeeded quite well in applying medieval astrological technique in a very modern field of expertise, i.e. helping couples getting pregnant by means of IVF, hormone treatment, etc. Or just by finding out when it is the most opportune time to conceive.
I really like Nicola’s opening statement on how to read this book: “this is a thoroughly contemporary book of medieval astrology, which may well present you with new techniques and also some that might contradict what you already know.” And off she goes into a very detailed coverage of all general theory and opinion surrounding the issue of fertility (some good, some less so), and her own astrological method(s) of establishing fertility in a chart (some good, some less so; one paragraph reads: Dispelling the myth of the ‘Jonas Method’).
Four chapters are dedicated to specific in-depth case studies in which the author builds up her case for using medieval technique, and gradually introducing a solid method for evaluating fertility in charts. She doesn’t spare herself and describes all the pitfalls she had to face in doing this hands on with clients. Quite a daunting enterprise I’m sure, but this instills confidence as she ploughs through all the possible indicators having to do with this topic.
Essentially, this book is about solid astrological prediction, applied to a specific topic; fertility. And a whole range of methods for prediction available from astrological tradition for prediction are used: the almuten of pregnancy of Omar Tiberias; the triplicity rulers of the ascendant and luminary; yearly profections; progressions by solar arc; solar returns; transits; midpoints, fixed stars and firdaria. Nicola reviews and evaluates all of them and offers her view on how to use them in this field of knowledge.
The book has a chapter on ‘signatures’ of fertility, which is a (much) better title than ‘recipes for fertility’. Here we find excellent counselling advice for clients having signatures that indicate a possible fertility challenge for both male and females.
This book really bridges the debate of ‘my ancient/modern astrology is the best form of astrology there is’. Nicola is a firm believer in using both together, as she shows constantly in her case descriptions and practice. Yet I sense a bias towards medieval techniques for prediction, and rightly so as she consistently proves them to be very effective in predicting fertile periods in life.
